The village of Marathokefala is located 25km away from the city of Chania and only 3km away from Kolymbari. Next to the cave there is a crypt, as well as a rock with a crack that drips water 'the Holy water of the Saint'. The wider area has had great development in the last few years, as it is being more and more chosen as a place for building beautiful luxury properties. Most importantly, the village is situated closer to the West side of Crete where the beaches of Phalasarna and Elafonisi - two of Europe's top beaches - are.
Kolymbari
Kolymbari is a seaside village located on the corner formed between the northern coastline of western Crete and Rodopos peninsula stretching towards north. Kolimbari is 24 km from the city of Chania and 12 km from the large resort of Platanias. This little Cretan village, surrounded by olive groves and the sea, has already entered the orbit of tourism development since some hotels-resorts have been built here. However, Kolymvari still remains a quiet and picturesque traditional village.
